Sewing / Craft Room Update

I spent the Saturday of the blizzard rearranging and organizing my sewing / craft room. The room was set up in a way that just wasn't working for me. Now I can easily access the shelves again!

I finally figured out a floor plan that works. On Black Friday I saw a deal for a free Homepolish session so I bought it. This gave me an hour session with a designer who I facetimed with, Marcy Garcia. And by the way I never use facetime and hate being recorded, so I am pretty sure I was terrible at it. It was so great to get a fresh opinion on everything. She found me a lot of sofa beds that would have fit in this space. She also believed that the dark wooden trim at the top of the room should be painted white and I agree! I have been thinking that about the whole house ever since I first saw it. This is definitely in the future plans. As is getting new flooring.

flea market find and craft room update

for some reason i have neglected decorating my craft room and it is a depressing sight. this corner of the room was very dark and was also the part of it that i used the most. it's hard to imagine how a room with 6, (yes six) light switches could have a patch of darkness, but it did. i was looking for a light just like this for the space and almost just folded and bought one online a few times for a small fortune. but sometimes you just so happen to find exactly what you are looking for at a flea market for $10. i still need to do something with the cord problem.

the seagull painting was also bought at a flea (punk rock flea market) years ago. and the sign was from my dad.
and i picked up the spool holder a couple of years ago at a thrift store for $1. it is missing a couple of pegs, but it works! i finally hung it.
i also started to cover my chair with some cool faux bois fabric.

still need to:
make pin board
install new flooring
hang shelving

and just because he's adorable.

terrarium

i bought a cute little terrarium when we went to terrain, we'll see how long it lasts, since i usually kill everything. unfortunately my grandma and mom's green thumbs were not passed into my genes!

it's a nice little ball of plant life during this long and very snowy winter.

my room

i'm never going to get around to completely cleaning it up, so here's a messy peak into my room, or workspace, craft room, whatever you want to call it. i can't seem to decide what to call it.

i made this arrangement a couple weeks ago for a party and it made my room smell so nice :-)

and here's the quilt i just made that's for sale in the shop, waiting for you to buy it.

work space redo and diy cork board

so we have been working on redoing a spare room into a work space for me and it's looking good if i do say so myself. i made a cork board out of some cork tiles that i got at michael's. here's how i did it

1. our walls happen to be plywood, so i could just nail them directly to the wall. first i measured to make figure out where to cut the tiles to fit between two pieces of trim on the wall.

2. then i cut the tile with scissors. an exacto knife and ruler would have worked better, but i don't have one.

3. line the tiles up on the wall and nail

here they are on the wall, looking bare and sad. i need to fill it with inspiration.

here are some pictures of the not quite finished room.

i want to make a slipcover for the sofa and need some new pillows. and i should get a rug because the floors scratch and dent really easily, but i like how it looks without one.

the filing cabinet doesn't really match anymore and i never really like how it turned out in the first place (i covered it with modge podge and paper), but it works for now. i can't believe how bright and big this room looks now. i'm really excited to have my very own work space! what do you think?
