hydrangea
the hydrangea in the backyard look amazing this year. it looks bigger and more beautiful than ever. thank god i stopped d.a. a few weeks ago from "pulling out that huge weed behind the grill."
i cut some to put in a vase along with some hosta. check it out and if you have flowers in your backyard, go cut a few and stick them in a vase. there is nothing like fresh flowers to brighten the day. first measure how much stem to cut off by holding the flowers together in a bunch outside of and next to the vase. cut the stems on an angle and then stick them in a vase. next you add the smaller flowers or filler (hosta) and there you have it.
quilt #2
i finally have had some free time lately and started working on my quilt. i also started the quilting class, so i am putting my new found skills to work. i'm making it for the guest bedroom. it really is a lot of fun. wishing it was my full time job, it's much more enjoyable. some day...

the BEST flea market
last weekend i went to my favorite flea market, williams grove. growing up i used to go to the silver springs flea market, but a few years ago it was demolished to make way for, what else, more shopping centers. luckily williams grove opened shortly after it closed and what a fantastic place. i forgot my camera, but have pictures from when i went last summer. for many, many years it was an amusement park and every summer we would have family picnics there. it was so much fun. my favorite was the fun house and of course the music express which squished you to one side of the car while going in circles and blaring rock music. what more could you ask for.
so not only is this place full of amazing things to buy, but it is surrounded by the remaining rides i remember and buildings where i would see magic shows. i'm not sure how when it originally opened, but my dad also has fond memories of the place when he would go as a child on 5 cent day with his parents and 9 siblings.
here are some things that i got: vintage plates, because you know i just don't have enough plates ;-), a belt to go with the owl belt buckle i picked up at a yard sale the other month.....
bakelite bracelets and old drawer pulls

new (and old) fabric
i was out shopping saturday with a friend and finally got to check out the fabric store spool in philly. they had such a great selection of fabrics and we also signed up for quilting classes. i'm looking forward to learning how to make them the "right" way.
here is the fabric i bought. the polka dots fabric shimmers, that's right, it shimmers. it is awesome. the flower fabric is old. i think my dad brought it home one day in a bag full of stuff he got somewhere. he's good at getting things for free. some would call it junk, and some of it is, but there have been some gems.
